1. Were n't you concerned with the security of this country. Have one more Id in your wallet. How does it matter? You are ready to do whatever this country asks you just because you are a non-immigrant.
2. Again I don't get your reasoning. How does immigration status verification ensure the security of this country ? Come up with some logical points.
Do you know that there are citizens from terror breeding countries roaming around in this country as citizens ( because they are not subject to country quota), whereas people from democratic countries like India being subject to all kinds of discrimination just because we are non-immigrants ( indirectly because we are subject to country cap) ?
It took a Martin Luther King to liberate blacks from slavery.
It took Mahatma Gandhi to get Independence for millions of Indians.
I am not assuming all individuals will have the same level of dignity and self respect. If you lack enough self respect, you will probably say US can ask us to wear a chain around our neck just because we are non-immigrants.
This reminds me of Adoor Gopalakrishnan's movie Vidheyan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidheyan
Thommy, a Christian migrant labour from Kerala is an obedient slave of his aggressive, tyrannical landlord Bhaskara Pattelar. Thommy obeys all the orders of his master, whether it is to make his own wife sexually available to his master or in killing Pattelar's kindly wife, Saroja. When Pattelar escapes to a jungle, due to his own deeds, Thommy escorts him like a pet. But when Pattelar gets killed Thommy exults in freedom.
Wow, are you seriously that ignorant about how immigrant status verification is related to homeland security? That's like saying a door lock has nothing to do with the security of your home. Your persecution hysteria is seriously bordering on lunacy now. Especially since you are comparing this stupid thing to slavery and colonial rule. Seriously, get over it. Also, by the way, for the record, I will not wear a chain around my neck if I am asked to. But I AM prepared to show the DMV an EVL because honestly, it's not a very big deal for me.

The photos I got from CVS was not bright enough. So the guy brightened the photos for me. Now the photos look a little touched up ...
What are considered bad photos?
I guess MOST of the people are concerned about the quality of photos than $ spent. My friend had RFE because the photos he got from CVS were not upto USCIS specifications. So any + experience is valuable to the forum.
Cheers..

DREAM Act Loses Republican Cosponsor Richard Lugar
WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats reintroduced the DREAM Act on Wednesday without the co-sponsorship of Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), who had previously been one of the bill's strongest backers.
The legislation would allow some undocumented young people to become U.S. citizens and has been introduced repeatedly over the years with Lugar and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) as the cosponsors. The most recent vote on the DREAM Act was in December, when it fell five votes short of bypassing a filibuster. Lugar was one of just three Republicans to vote for the measure.
In a statement, Lugar spokesman Mark Helmke blamed Democrats for turning immigration into a partisan issue.
"President Obama's appearance in Texas framed immigration as a divisive election issue instead of attempting a legitimate debate on comprehensive reform," wrote Helmke. "Ridiculing Republicans was clearly a partisan push that effectively stops a productive discussion about comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act before the 2012 election."
In his Tuesday speech at the Mexico-U.S. border, Obama pointed the finger at Republicans for moving the goal posts on immigration reform. The president argued that his administration has gone out of its way to accommodate their requests.
"Maybe they'll say we need a moat. Or alligators in the moat," Obama joked, referring to the GOP. "They'll never be satisfied. And I understand that. That's politics."
Helmke said Lugar's staff told Democrats that the Indiana senator supported the initiative, but he wanted them to work on getting more Republican support. Lugar's spokesman claims that not only did Democrats not do that, but they set up a press conference to announce the reintroduction of the DREAM Act before the Lugar had made his final decision not to cosponsor. Democrats, however, said that it was clear for months that Indiana Republican wasn't going to cosponsor the bill at this time.

What if we used so much of our time and energy in finding jobs in India/China and moving back, instead of going after media/govt?
Some of us have spent $35-40 on sending flowers, if we gave a internet job board that kind of money to send our resumes to prospective employers and headhunters in India, we may have a chance in finding a job in the emerging economy of India/China.. that will be THE biggest impact on US Govt... To add to my opinion, I would like to direct your attention to Microsoft... They didn't waste their resources on fighting the media, govt.. they just moved to Canada.. And believe me, there will be more such instances...
Agreed totally. Indian economy is booming and will last for another 5 to 10 years. Waiting for green card will make you lose out both the Indian opportunity as well as the "so called" American dream. People with decent experience are making good money and nothing better than living closer to friends and relatives.

Howz one to live a moral and compassionate existence when one is fully aware of the blood, the horror inherent in life, when one finds darkness not only in onez culture but within oneself? If there is a stage at which an individual life becomes truly adult, it must be when one grasps the irony in its unfolding and accepts responsibility for a life lived in the midst of such paradox. One must live in the middle of contradiction, because if all contradiction were eliminated at once life would collapse. There r simply no answers to some of the great pressing questions. You continue to live them out, making your life a worthy expression of leaning into the light.
One of the contradictions is NOT obtaining a Green Card.

Anyone invoking AC21 with unapproved I-140?
If you try to use AC21 without an approved I-140 your employer can withdraw the I-140 petition ( since it is not approved yet ) . So best wait a few months until it is approved and then merrily go the AC21 way

you think it is safer to submit the last 2/3 paystubs while on H1 earlier along with the other documents we submit while filing for H1, or not even submit them.. I know the officer is at full liberty to ask whatever document he fancies at that moment and my stars at that time..
Do you think they will ask for the W2's while on H1 period..?
others too, pls share your thoughts.

Yes I agree, our history and way of working is also different maybe better/worse, but defenitely way more experience! I don't think I would want to change any thing about family , friend relations and the way we help each other. Even some of the ways we think, has a lot of advantages.
we always manage to get things done. There are a lot of unseen riches that are not realized completely.
we should defenitely avoid aping the west, but pick the good stuff out of it.
being open minded and having freedom of expression is good up to a certain point!
There is freedom and education even in India, I agree infrastructure needs improvement.
India is 3rd in the world if you account for purchasing power parity. Don't trash India so soon. have you looked at how people lived in the US 40-50 years back? While I agree Indian IT should do more quality work and treat employees fairly. He no longer works with Infy, he just made generic comments.
There is no freedom and especially education in India. in US even if you are a 60 year old you can join a university but in India things are different. Freedom, what kind of freedom you are talking about. with the political idiots creating havocs for high thinking people. Hey come to reality do not dream
This time is different, I do work in the financial industry.
I would hate to say this - but was every recovery in the last 2 decades mostly due to a bubble that was created - dot-com, low interest, housing?
There are not many bubbles left to create, and the debt was never this high.
Recovery is bloked mainly do to Politics understand that first.
The growth of India should be more compared to Canada, that has a conservative financial system with lot of regulation. AKA no vegas.
Again never compare Canada with India, India is Unique and I am not putting my Motherland on Trash, You are in a way doing that, by comparing it with Canada and USA.
STOP religious Conversion and propoganda all over the world all the countries will live happily.

Just imagine what will happen to the market flooded with EADs. Job market for H1Bs will totally be down. No US companies will hire H1Bs if they get somebody with an EAD. Tonnes of Junior developers and S/W testers will in the market driving the billing rates down even further. It's better to pack up and leave. I have heard from one of the forums here that an estimated 500K people will file this month since all PDs are current. EB-3 mexico + phillipines togther alone will be close to 300K. God help the Job market.
Also minimum wait time will be 500K/140K ~ 4 yrs before they get to process your GC. Add to that the time for namecheck backlog 2+ yrs. So total 6+ yrs before getting GC........
lotr
Isnt that how a market is supposed to work - on the laws of demand and supply. For every consequence there is always an unintended one. And if enought local wokers (EAD, others) are available then the laws of the market would require an automatic reduction in the number of H1b's.
Before people start dumping on me - lets remind ourselves that we are here for a healthy debate and to appreciate ALL view points.
Remember - It is not that important to know all the answers as it is to ask the right questions.

Even Workers in U.S. Illegally Pay Tax Man, By Miriam Jordan | WALL STREET JOURNAL, April 4, 2007
From Confiscating Contributions (http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/CIR/socialsecurity_confcontrib_2007-05-01_iru.pdf) By JONATHAN BLAZER | Public Benefits Policy Attorney and JOSH BERNSTEIN | Director of Federal Policy, May 10, 2007
Peter Goss, Social Security’s Chief Actuary, has estimated that three quarters of undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes. This generates $6 to $7 billion per year in Social Security tax revenue and $1.5 billion in Medicare taxes.
According to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, undocumented noncitizens paid almost $50 billion in federal taxes from 1996 to 2003. Recent reports from across the country indicate that during the 2007 tax season, record numbers of undocumented people filed tax returns.
As IRS Commissioner Mark Everson, a former immigration official, stated in testimony before Congress last year, “If someone is working without authorization in this country, he or she is not absolved of tax liability.” In a more recent speech to the National Press Club, Everson added, “We want your money whether you are here legally or not and whether you earned it legally or not.”

Report back
Two people from the CA group met the Constituent Services Manager at the Congresswoman's office. The staffer was very familar with Immigration issues, and the functioning of backlog elimination centers. It was a fascinating meeting at a very personal level with good exchange of views. It is good to remember we meet as individuals with our own histories, struggles and successes.
On IV goals
There was more agreement on some of IV's goals than others. For example it might be easier to "Automatically recapture unused EB Visa number from previous year." That goal may have better chance to win out. So we may need to move this item up. So in terms of priority, starting with what the staffer agreed with, Iv's priorities would something like this.
1. Transparency of DOL-BEC and USCIS functioning.
2. Automatically recapture unused EB Visa Numbers from previous years.
3.Convert all 1 year extensions of H-1B, EAD, and Travel Document (Advance Parole) of applicants in backlog to 3 year extension.
4. Ability to file I-485 even without Visa Number availability
5. Allow applicants with advanced degrees from the US, or who have worked for more than 3 years in the US on H-1B, to automatically apply for adjustment of status without regard to EB annual limit.
6. Eliminate dependents from EB annual limit.
7. Increase EB annual limit.
We shared the Ombudsaman's report and the couple of pages from the President's economic report of 2005. They were both very useful. It was the first time the staffer had seen the Ombudsman's report. The staffer wanted to use these at at a meeting she is attending :) Thank you IV team, especially Berkeley Bee for ferreting out key bits of information.
On speeding up Labor certification
When one of us said congress's intention for LC is 21-60 days, the staffer replied that was before 911. How can we make this happen and speeded up the work in PBEC/DBEC?
The staffer also mentioned that a lot of time is spent on "background check" and mentioned it was suggested it might be better for FBI to do it. But of course the FBI had other things to do and that suggestion didn't fly.
One of us mentioned the clogging due to 245-i. LCs could be speeded up -- if the paper work of those on the 245-1 (Apr.,25,2001) track is different from us, then could those be handled differently/ in another place to speed up our LCs in PBEC and DBEC.
Finally, the staffer will let the congresswoman know our concerns.
thanks
